In the West End you are lucky to have Brent Granby and the West End Residents Association, and VV members Ivan Doumenc and Sibila Maksimcev are both incredible activists and well-rounded people. When a larger critical mass forms, the West End will make a great local chapter, or village (and maybe many villages), of Village Vancouver.
In the meantime, take part in any activities listed on this site, and feel free to join an existing nearby village to get a feel for the activities we undertake. In June we will be establishing a full-fledged "village" on Main Street (yes, right on Main Street!) during CarFree Day. Meanwhile we are sharing seeds and seedlings, making worm composters, and whatever strikes a member's fancy, just so long as it's a low-carbon, no-carbon, or carbon-positive activity.
Local, organic, rural, and/or urban, food production is a mainstay of life, and doing it well leads to wellness. From farm to kitchen, discussions relating to food--and the community arising around it--belong here.
If you have to leave your village, how will you get where you want to go? By car? Preferably not, both for your wallet and the earth’s sake. This category is for all discussions relating to how we all get around.
A human right? After food, most feel shelter is the most important necessity. A place of shelter is also the start of a community. This category is for all things relating to shelter, housing, affordable housing, homes, renewable heating systems, green buildings, heritage, and our built environment in general.
