My Bio-Blurb

In 2009 I became a beekeeper! I am following in the footsteps of my grandfather who tended bees in Alberta. It has been exciting to learn about and tend to our approx. 10, 000 new friends! Steve and I are planning to add another hive to our happy home in the spring.I also love spending time in our garden and last year we expanded it to our front yard.

Before moving to Vancouver 4 years ago, I was living in Toronto while pursuing a PhD degree in Environmental Education (my thesis is entitled: Enveloped by Ocean Life: Experiences of SCUBA Diving). Soon after moving to Vancouver I became involved in a Community Climate Change Cafe initiative where I met Ross who inspired me to become involved in Village Vancouver (VV). Through VV I have met many wonderful people who continue to teach me about creating resilient communities and I look forward to meeting you too! Two years ago I made a move to the wonderful Main street area with Steve and Loki (our dog). I'm excited about meeting others living near us (and afar) who are striving to tread lightly on the earth and are interested in creating a more resilient, cooperative, and closer knit community - together.

Hi Anna,

While I imagine you have more than enough on your plate at the moment, I thought I'd call this to your attention, as it sounds pretty cool, and I'm looking forward to participating in it. http://www.villagevancouver.ca/group/vvheartandsoulgroup/forum/topics/work-that-reconnects-macy-mondays.

I hope all is well!

Cheers,

I would like to know if you have a list of members who are Beekeepers in North Vancouver.

If there is enough interest in forming a group locally or not.

Anna, sorry it took me so long to accept your invite. I am starting to warm up to using social media for personal communication. I hope all is well with you.

Yes I took all of those photos. Sadly I don't have many honey bee pics and none are printed out. I don't know anything about keeping bees but am dying to learn. I'll be sure to pop by tomorrow.

Anna, I have recently joined this group cause of my Chicken hobby.
My two daughters and I have been doing just a little research on Bee Keeping.
We really don't know much at the moment and would like to get a little more info before deciding on getting a bee hive house going.
I was wondering if you have any time to show us your operation and explain to us what's involved in running a honey bee house?

Hey, so I've been doing some beekeeping for 2 years now and am interested in helping to expand throughout the East Side. I know our neighbours' crops have really benefited from it. Also we need more places to keep hives as we continue to grow.

HI Anna

I'm really interested in the intro to beekeeping get together. Can you please let me know when that is scheduled for? I am taking Brian Campbell's workshop on topbar hives in July but would love a low-down on the basics beforehand because we want to start keeping bees next spring. Thanks!

Hi Anna,

Beekeeper Nao Sims has just joined VV and posted some info about her work, and also a video. I've invited her to join our Beekeeping group and also Main Street Neighbours.

It's nice to see all these new connections being made so easily.

Cheers,
Ross
