***Welcome to all of the members who have recently joined us on the Village Vancouver Transition Town site! It’s wonderful to see our numbers grow and to learn more about the people in our neighbourhood and especially our interests related to nurturing a more ecologically sustainable and cohesive community.

The global Transition movement, begun in Totnes in the UK, is a grass roots community response to the twin challenges of Climate Change and Peak Oil. Based on the premise that the level by which to effect the most significant and lasting change is local, Transition is all about reconnecting with our neighbours, sharing our knowledge about food gardening, sharing, and other sustainable choices, and reconnecting through the kind of personal local networks that cannot be replaced by online communities.
The Main Street Neighbourhood started as a series of monthly potlucks and an informal exchange of local knowledge and assets. We have experienced permaculturists (aka modern backyard farmers), seed sharers, engineers, planners, green home remodellers, and recreational sports people of every stripe in our ranks. We share everything from compost and soil to wheelbarrows and canoes.

If you have to leave your village, how will you get where you want to go? By car? Preferably not, both for your wallet and the earth’s sake. This category is for all discussions relating to how we all get around.

A human right? After food, many feel shelter is our second most important need. Community lies in there somewhere. This category is for all things relating to home, shelter, housing, affordable housing, renewable heating systems, green buildings, heritage, and our built environment in general.
