"Oat or Barley hay....one or the other...sorry I forgot but I can find out if it's important.
It comes from the fields of Blue Heron Farm and their neighbouring farm.
They raise horses and was grown last year for feed and she says it was not…"

The house is 4 doors E of the Mayfair/Dunbar St intersection. Tall, green heritage house with new garden beds in front.
Tentative agenda:
Introduction:
Opportunity to share interests, skills/experience and current projects.
Approximately 45 minutes (~5 minutes per person)
Transition town framework:
Explore other transition efforts under Energy group (USA, UK, etc.)
Approximately 30 minutes
Identify VV Energy Group project priorities:
Open for suggestions – this would be a good place to add comments and circulate before the meeting. Gives other participants time to cogitate and prepare.

I have a couple of DIY Solar Energy projects in mind. One is a solar hot water trough system in which a reflective mirror material is curved into a semi-circle to focus the suns energy on a steel pipe. Check out: www.ffwdm.com/solar/solar-index.htm. The other is making solar panels with B Grade Monocrystalline solar cells and wiring them all together to create an affordable (however time intensive) solar panel.
These are two systems which I am looking to experiment with. The goal of course is energy savings which means integration with a building and its energy systems. What i like about both of these systems is that they are modular or scalable. In other words, one panel could be built at a time and monitored as to determine the number of panels needed to meet required energy needs.
On a smaller scale Solar electric panel(s) can be used for direct current applications or with a small inverter plugged directly into a household socket to supplement your kilowatt usage. All this of coarse until you have built or acquired an entire array and the instillation costs that go along with it. Same goes with Solar Hot Water. Perhaps using it for an outdoor shower etc. until integration with a hot water tank or hot water on demand system becomes feasible.
Once I get a few of my numerable projects currently underway out of my way, I'll set up to start experimenting with some of these systems and possibly others.
Another thought is doing a workshop. Supplying solar cells and instructing people on how to wire them up and build an enclosure. I was thinking it could be a one day workshop where people create a small solar panel or a few days where people build a large 60/80watt panel. I of course have no real idea on timelines at this point.

Please feel free to contribute to a discussion, attend or even enter a new event, join a working group, or even form a Village.
We already have another West Van'er on board, Matt Rowland, who's joined out Energy Group. Whatever your interest, let us know. We'll plug you in.
