Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

The following is my best attempt at transcribing the Visioning exercise from the last Village Vancouver meeting held on January 25th at Strathcona Community Centre

 

Present in attendance:  Emi Do, Penny Coupland, Rebecca Cuttler, Sobey and two guests, from Downtown and the West End.

 

Vision for our Ideal Neighborhood

"A Complete Community"

-workplace:

-easily accessible (working within our own community)

-necessities accessible on foot or by bicycle

-car co-op because driving cars can be fun too (but we all don't need to own one!)

-access to knowledge regarding food

-formation of heritage gardens

-access to knowledge and skills

-access to locally produced clothing

-eduction

-creation of non hierarchical forms of education

-ability to educate children in neighborhood

-education and knowledge sharing structures

-being cognizant in public shared buildings of energy use (ie heating in community centres)

Permaculture Vancouver Meetups (3rd Wednesdays VV McBride Park Fieldhouse (sometimes elsewhere) Next meetup: Special date Thursday, July 29th

West End Community Potluck/WE Urban Garden Club (3rd Sundays West End Community Centre, in July and August 4th Thursdays - July 22nd and August 26th.
