Hey Neil,

Thanks for joining us!  So glad you are looking to get involved!  You should have just got a LONG update from me as to what is going on with Village Burnaby, certainly Community Gardens are a big priority for us, and I am really excited to hear you are working on some awesome (really awesome!) stuff.

Lets chat soon, be happy to meet for coffee, maybe you can join our activists group, or just make it out to the next potluck in March.

Look forward to meeting you and hearing more about your projects!

Cheers,

Matthew

Hey All,

Just joined and looking to get involved whenever I can :)  Would love to meet some local green thumbs / sustainable living enthusiasts.  I just moved into Burnaby (Edmonds area) in September and have some pretty ambitious goals of getting a rooftop patio garden going this year.  Would also love to find out about / get involved with community gardening.  Looking forward to attending / hosting potlucks in the future.  Definitely interested in learning as much as I can from Y'all, so just let me know the best way to get involved :)

Cheers,
Neil

Hey Mahjabeen,

Thanks for the note, sorry you can't make it.  Now that things have settled down for me would love to sit down and chat about some stuff if you have the time.  Let me know what might work for you - mjfstuart@gmail.com, we will be doing some stuff on weekends coming up soon, and I look forward to having you involved then as well!

Hi all,

I got the note about the location for this Wednesday's get together and I SO want to be there but sadly I can't make it. If you have anything on Friday nights or the weekends, I'm going to try my best to  make it. I want to be involved in garden initiatives a lot in Burnaby, particularly community ones. ... I wish I could make it. A good grand time and love to take part in the near future.

Regards,

Mehjabeen

I was thinking about the creation of neighbourhood associations. Local bodies that represent the interest of the neighborhood in matters such as transport, local food, community activities and festivals...

How would the structure of such an association be organised?
How can one be started?
Is there value in the creation of these neighbourhood groups?

Something I would like to offer for discussion at the meeting!

Hey all,

I am sorry for leaving everyone hanging on meeting dates and times for the next Village meeting.  I think we discussed the Third Wednesday of every month, but that is coming up too quick for me to promote again, so I am going to push the Village Burnaby meeting to Wednesday January 25th, 2011 again at Bonsor Recreation Centre (unless plans change).  I have created an event on the front page, and it would be great if people could attend.  I would like to start talking about a direction for the group, so please bring your ideas.  I would also like to talk about selecting a Board of Directors for the group so we can make planning simple and easy.

Some ideas I / other folks have:

- Car Free Days

- Community Gardens

- Community Currency

- Community Food Hub (a place to process food, distribute CSA's / good food, etc).

- Backyard Garden Sharing

Please bring your ideas with you when you come, lets get moving!

Yo! If Burnaby folks want to meet in Jan, please lets talk about it... I can host it at my house if there are not too many people (fairly small living room!) -  I am super excited about planning out some great stuff! (BTW: Im the woman with the weird bangs at the meeting at Bonsor who was talking about the 22nd stn community garden) :)

Mahjabeen, Thanks for the comment. Too bad you can't make it to the meeting, but would LOVE to have you involved.  I also would like to see more community gardens in the city.  I had talked to the good folks at BARAGA in the Big Bend Area (http://baraga.ca/), and they expressed some interest in helping new groups set up gardens, and the city seems willing to give land if there are groups to organize and manage the plots.

If you are interested in sitting down soon-ish I would love to do coffee, and chat about ideas. Otherwise, we will be planning a meeting for January with the whole group. You can send me an email if you like at mjfstuart@gmail.com
