VV Strathcona Park Field House Healthy, Local Food and Gardening Residency 2016-18

We've been awarded a three year Healthy, Local Food & Gardening Field House Residency at Strathcona Park by Vancouver Park Board

Join us for workshops, seed saving, garden work parties, meetups, East Van Village, Inner City Village, Permaculture Vancouver and other permaculture activities, wild edibles walks, As We Know It cultural gatherings, ElderGreens projects, and other fun and educational activities.

New gardeners welcome at our permaculture, Inner City Village, woad dye project/herb spiral, and DTES Neighbourhood House garden plot work parties Cottonwood Community Garden, which adjoins the Field House.

10 June, 2018                                                                                                               Car Free Day is just around the corner - June 16th in the West End and June 17th on Main St. Our team (7 of us) is busy getting ready for our Demonstration Sustainable Village at Main St. CFD. As usual, we have the intersection at 13th and Main and the eastside of the block from 13th to 12th. Buddy Up, Neighbour Lab, and My. Pleasant Neighbourhood House will be joining us, and Groundswell will have several booths. We have a great lineup at our music stage (west side of 13th street intersection). 

In the West End, we're partnering with West End Neighbourhood Food Network, Free seeds, mason bee house, and seedlings, and West End Urban Garden Calendars will be available for $5.

23 May, 2018                                                                                                                 We hosted the Vancouver Neighbourhood Food Network's May meeting at the fieldhouse today. We're one of 15 networks from around the city that meet every couple months to share information, discuss areas of mutual interest or concern, and support one another in our work. Almost every neighbourhood in Vancouver has a network. In Village's case, we work in multiple neighbourhoods.

12 May, 2018                                                                                                                 Montanna, Kristine, and I had another productive work party at VV's plots at Cottonwood. We garden there on most Sunday's from 10-noon, and welcome inquiries from prospective new gardeners. Contact: gardeningwithvv@villagevancouver.ca.

2 December, 2018                                                                                                         Winding down our activities for the year. We have a couple things scheduled (recycling depot, etc.) in December, but mostly it's quiet month for us. Happy holidays everyone and see you in 2018.

It was interesting tabling in the Cottonwood Garden today for. Many new people to talk with -  lots of gardening information. Finally saw the banana tree!

Car-free day was a long day. We started early at the field house to get the tents and tables - 7 am I think.  Back again about 8:30 pm - packing everything away again.
