Neighbourhood deliveries of straw and chicken feed?

oh dear! Its a shame your impression is that only a few rich people have chickens. You should come to East Van! We've got homemade chicken coops (on rented property) that we all pitched in and helped each other to build, (from recycled materials) we've got omelet parties happening and every child from a 10 block radius are now our friends.

I don't know any rich people with chickens come to think of it. I've had a very similar experience to Amy. We've built most of our coop, fencing and everything else we needed for our chickens and our garden from recycled and materials we found (usually for free) on Craigslist. We have a constant flow of neighborhood kids and families coming through to see the chickens and the garden and have really enjoyed the fresh eggs. Wild bird seed and garbage attract rats WAY more than chicken feed so if you're really concerned about rats, we should ban wild bird feeders and greatly reduce the amount of garbage people are allowed to put out each week to force everyone to consume and waste less.

That said, I do agree that the way this has been financed is stupid. I don't really see the point in the registration system if they aren't using it to collect fees to pay for the administration and I think the homeless chicken shelter should be a freezer next to the food bank. But even so, the way chickens are bringing communities together is probably worth every penny they've spent.

Sorry, you rent a whole house, my room is so small.

You must have a car too to go and get all the stuff for your chikens coops. I spoke to some of the tenints but they all said its wouldnt work for the stratas because the owners not the tenints have to abide by the councils. So Im just tenints with no control to be free to have like you. after my classes graduate

I hope to make more money and be more free.in canada. You agree the money is a waste, I agree too, but then why is it good they spent every penny but people still poor and no oportunity to share the prosperty.

With the money that the foolish man spend you could have fed many chikens to the poor people or bought many many eggs to feed people. For the money they could have made coops to give to poor peoples with chikens aswell ! I dont think they need to collect more fees ? I am not agreeing with that ! I say I'm not rich, and you say to collect more fees.

I don't understand the rich to keep the poor from having by more fees. Typical mentalty of the plantation owner to keep us the hard workers who get the least back.

Dear Amy thanks for your advice ! I should look on the craig list for free stuff !
I have to go rent some land so i can have chickens, its not enough of a stuggle to pay for my rent to have a roof over the head while going to school to better myself ! The boy across from me has to collect cans to make the meats end and we live in a pretty good playce. Its great you got helps. People aint caring much about one another in my views. my friend lives in the east side she wants to go away from there to many crazy drug lords no one steal your chikens ? .

I found a place that will deliver to my house. They deliver to Southlands weekly and I'm just a block from Southlands so they'll deliver here. They have everything including dog and cat food. Will post more info when I'm not on my blackberry.

So Westway Feed in Delta will deliver for us. They carry everything.... organic chick starter, grower and layer feed, oyster shells, scratch, feeders, waterers, wormer, cat food, dog food (high quality stuff including wheat free, fish, etc), treats, buckets, etc. etc. I'll ask them to send me a list of relevant stuff so I can post it here. I was thinking that it would be good to share the large bags of feed since you don't go through very much of it and that way it will be fresher. Apparently the feed stores are only allowed to stock the organic stuff for 2 weeks because it doesn't keep as well as the other stuff. Anyway... I'm out of town for the next two weeks but if everyone can think about what they might need so i can place an order when I get back, that would be great.

This is good! We need to find some metal containers that will keep the feed safe & dry while being stored in the garage?

Hey guys,

Some urban farmers had brought in some hay for a project and they have some left over, $5 a bail (I think)
Its full of seeds but I found the ladies like that anyway.

I'm going to place a feed order tomorrow or Tuesday so if anyone needs anything, please let me know. They also have supplies like feeders and waterers, cat food, dog food (I have my dogs on their fish and oatmeal food and it has completely CURED the toxic farting) & more. Just call them if you have any questions.

I think they said they need a week's notice to get the organic stuff in so it will probably be delivered to my place on Monday so you can pick it up here then.

Thanks Julia, Yes, I would like to order 2 bags of laying crumble. 1 bag of chicken scratch &
1 bag of Jimmy cracked corn.
