Permaculture Village

Transition is based on, and inspired by,  Permaculture principles. Permaculture is permanent agriculture and permanent culture. We will be approaching 'creating sustainable habitat' in many different ways: regular design & demonstration projects; Social permaculture; workshops. Permablitzes, Blitzes or Permaculture Energy Transfer or Pet Day are days that we go on site collectively create systems which cycle energy toward win win win economy. Food forests provide abundant gardens and parks…See More

Hello!

Since you have indicated Hastings-Sunrise as your neighbourhood location, I thought I would let you know that we are in the embryonic stages of creating a Hastings-Sunrise village and have set up a Village Group here at Village Vancouver to facilitate that process.

I am aware that there are lots of neighbourhood groups and activities already in place in Hastings Sunrise and hope that in some way a Hastings-Sunrise Village can help to provide some networking between groups rather than competing as another entity, but also can carry out activities that might be of interest to the other groups as well. Really, it's wide open as to what we do as a village entity... but we need participation to determine what that will be!

Please go over to the Villages1 Tab - there you will find Hastings Sunrise Village and can join up and participate in the discussion - and also feel free to post Hastings-Sunrise activities and events there for others to see.

Welcome, Kasza!

As you can see, we are just beginning to build an on-line community for Village Vancouver, and organize our extensive activities more openly and collaboratively through this site. Please feel free to contribute to a discussion, attend or even enter a new event, join a working group, or even form a Village.

Renfrew-Collingwood does not have a local village formed yet, but your ranks are growing with now 5 Village Vancouver members, including Aaron Johannes, Grant Watson, Ernie Baatz, and Sandra Scow. Meanwhile, come to any event posted on our Events page, connect with other Village Vancouver members, and see what you can learn and do.

Also, please update your home page ("My Page" above) with some brief comments about your interests or a short bio. This will help us all connect with people with similar interests in sustainability, transition, or other activities.

Food

Local, organic, rural, and/or urban, food production is a mainstay of life, and doing it well leads to wellness. From farm to kitchen, discussions relating to food--and the community arising around it--belong here.

Transportation

If you have to leave your village, how will you get where you want to go? By car? Preferably not, both for your wallet and the earth’s sake. This category is for all discussions relating to how we all get around.

Housing

A human right? After food, most feel shelter is the most important necessity. A place of shelter is also the start of a community. This category is for all things relating to shelter, housing, affordable housing, homes, renewable heating systems, green buildings, heritage, and our built environment in general.
