Event Description

Garlic's easy to grow, can thrive in small spaces, and tastes great homegrown! In this hands on Village Vancouver workshop with Rhiannon Johnson in our collaborative permaculture garden, we'll cover different types of garlic, soil, planting, care, and what to expect. You'll learn how to grow garlic in your garden or containers and take home some garlic cloves to plant. We'll have the Aberthau Village Vancouver community seed library there - pick up some free seeds for your garden, swap or donate seeds.

By Donation: Sliding scale $0 - $12.50 suggested. Free for Seniors (50 and over).

Register here (http://www.villagevancouver.ca/events/spice-up-your-garden-with-garlic-by-donation-free-for-seniors-1) or with ross@villagevancouver.ca. Advance registration encouraged.

Workshop attendees are also welcome to join us for a short garden work party before the workshop.

Organized and led by seniors, VV ElderGreens brings seniors, youth and others together to share food and gardening skills and wisdom through workshops and other activities. All ages welcome; please contact us if you're interested in getting involved.

This workshop is part of Village Vancouver's Building Community Food Security and Resilience Project. This project is made possible by the BC Ministry of Agriculture's Grow Local program. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Agriculture.

ABERTHAU GARDEN PROJECT
Located behind the Mansion, just off of NW Marine Dr, and hosted by Village Vancouver, the garden includes VV’s Demonstration Permaculture Garden, the WPG Preschool Garden and art/garden projects by artists-in-residence LocoMotoArt: Laura Lee Coles and Rob Scharein. Emphasizing permaculture design elements, including a small hugelkultur, an herb spiral, planting pollinator attractants, and saving open pollinated seeds, the garden offers fun, inclusive social, educational, culinary and cultural activities for community members. Enjoy free or low-cost weekday evening cooking, fermenting and preserving demonstrations, gardening workshops, native edibles walks and the seed savers club.

In the garden, newer gardeners garden collaboratively alongside more experienced gardeners at our Saturday work parties, providing a learning experience for everyone. For more info or to get involved in the garden visit our Aberthau Garden Project page or email Ross Moster at ross@villagevancouver.ca.
