Let's get starting helping each other through the Transition in Grandview-Woodland! Our neighbourhood is full of great people with many skills, and by working together we can vastly improve our own resiliency while having fun and building community.
I am proposing a stone soup gathering: everyone can bring an ingredient to contribute to a delicious soup or soups that we can then share while we share our ideas for practical actions that we can undertake together, right here in Grandview-Woodland. I have a couple of ideas about emergency preparedness and organising to obtain Neighbourhood Small Grants to undertake community projects, and would love to hear all of your ideas as well!
Please RSVP on this page if you can make it to this gathering; the location may change depending on how many people want to come. Also, because this is a stone soup gathering, please bring one or two ingredients that could go into a soup along with you. It might also be a good idea to write in the Comments section of this page about what you are planning on bringing, just to prevent a situation where everyone brings the same thing. Depending on diversity of ingredients, we may even end up making more than one soup!

The wide shallow bowls are mine. Sorry, but that whole week was a blur of electoral campaign disfunction, and with predictable results. How about I ask you to leave the plates on the front porch/stairs, and I can swing by today (Monday) or Tuesday to pick them up?
Somebody left two beige soup bowls behind at Micah's place. Let me know who you are and how to get them back to you please. I very much enjoyed spending the evening with you all. I hope we can do this or something like it again.

I can only come for the 1st half hour or so as my band has its AGM at 7pm tonight. But I'd like to stop in and meet you all (and it's only a few blocks from my place).
I will bring half a small pumpkin for the soup, and couple beets from my garden.
carrots & potatoes from garden, chicken broth & chicken for non-veg soup option, cherry pie for desert
potatoes from garden and the story!
Hi Micah,
Sounds great! I'll update the location to your address at 2336 Kitchener then. We have already pinned down the 17th as the date for this gathering.
Cheers,
Jordan
Yes, Jordan, I would be happy to host and could do so on the 17th, 18th or 20th at or after 6:00, but pinning down a date would be helpful. It would be great to chat with people who recognize how desperately we need to re-think what we do if we intend to manage our way together into a very difficult future. I have two large soup pots.
All the best,
Micah
Hi Micah,
That's great, I look forward to meeting you! To answer your question, yes, this is definitely going to happen! It sounds like you might be interested in hosting, which is great as your place sounds bigger than my bachelor suite! Please confirm whether that is indeed something you would like to do. You can reach me by email at jordan@villagevancouver.ca if you prefer.
In terms of what I can bring, I have chives, basil, kale and swiss chard from my mini-garden, and might throw in another few ingredients as well. Do you have one or more larger pots that would be suitable for making the soup? If not I'll go out and get one.
Cheers,
Jordan
I'm busy that night, but am interested in hearing about other meetings.
I have been waiting for this opportunity. I can bring kale, rutabaga and carrots from the garden. I could accommodate 9 around the table or more scattered around. I'm at 2336 Kitchener. I'm not sure how this communication venue works. My e-mail is mwaskow@telus.net; please let me know if this get together is definitely going to happen.
