Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Kitsilano, West Point Grey
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
I am always interested in new ideas and issues pertaining to the environment and sustainability. Some that I am most interested/ involved in are:
-agriculture
-arts
-seed diversity
-energy models
-education
-GMO
-health and fitness
-animal habitats/ ecosystems, including marine life
-waste management and reduction through product choice
-organizing events
-community building
-having FUN!
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
As a youth (16), I would be greatly interested in working towards educating and creating awareness among fellow youth as well as children in particular. As my city is quite small (New West), I feel that it is realistic to believe that a group of dedicated individuals could drive incredible change in the community with the right support and ressources! Currently I am working with my school to convert to eco-friendly/ health-happy/wallet- happy dry erase whiteboard markers. My hope is that in the next few years that all schools in our district will be using this product (Auspens) as their choice whiteboard marker. A great development in my community that I have observed is the establishment of our local Farmers Market. Not only does it provide citizens with fresh, delicious food and quality handmade goods, but an opportunity to create a sense of community as well. I thoroughly enjoy visiting the Farmers Market and interacting with my neighbours and community members.

In terms of skills, I am very comfortable in public speaking and presentation situations, even large groups (100+ people). I am a dedicated team worker, love to meet and socialize with new people, and am always excited about new initiatives. I am one of seven youth involved with organizing MOMENTUM Youth Arts Festival, a three day youth arts festival based at Massey Theatre in New Westminster. As a founding member of the festival, I am currently in my second year of planning and production. From this opportunity I have gained a solid foundation in large-scale event planning. I really to enjoy event planning! I have also been involved in other event organisation through my school and community.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
I would love to see more integrated and widespread support for sustainability and resiliency projects in my community. There are great things being done or in the works, however they are not usually connected. I believe that this connection of initiatives throughout the community will create an unstoppable agent for change, and ultimately growth. This will also undoubtedly enhance the existing sense of community and allow it to prosper!
