In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Renfrew-Collingwood
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
Growing food, local currency
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
Vegetable gardening, via internet.

I read that you need to do some raised beds. I can share my experience.
I had a strong man digging eight beds for my garden and also using used tires for growing potato like crops. It is working beautifully.
To raise the beds diggin it works like this:
I had the beds measuring 4 feet by 20 feet.
The digging was 60 cm deep. It was dug the first 30 cm and placed on the right hand side of the bed. The other 30 cm was placed on the left side. I had already prepared the compost (home compost and some horse manure. When the 60 cm had been dug and the floor of the bed was flat, I placed about 6 inches of horse manure, then6 inches of soil soil from the right side, then 6 inches of compost manure. I layered it like that until all the soil from the right hand side was inside of the bed. Then I started with the left side, doing the same layering and added some sand in between if I was going to place root vegetable in that bed.. On top of the last layer, I added some straw. I layered more manure and some straw, watered and let it stay put for ten days before planting anything. Look it has been a blast.
I also have discovered how the devas and fairies work to help us better our gardening skills.
It is very important to have flowers that can attract bees and plant some blue flowers to attract the blue devas.
Also I discovered that singing helps the plants tremendously, as well as playing Beethoven, Mozart, Bach makes them very happy.
I found out that Reiki will keep bugs away as well.
