Village Vancouver

Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

Hi everyone,

I finally arrived with my two hens all the way from Denver, Colorado! Rosie and Cookie already have an outdoor run (though I'm not too confident in it yet), but they need more straw and they need a coop, too.

Main thing: Does anyone within walking distance have a bit of straw I could have? I don't have a car so a whole bail is out of the question unless someone very generous with a car would be willing to deliver just one or two bails (or let me borrow a wagon?).

Also, if anyone wants to eyeball my run and give advice on what I might be able to do to predator proof it a bit more. I haven't buried the wire, so it's not good enough for at night (racoons etc.) but I'd like to have enough confidence in it to leave them during the day. I already had a loose dog run right into my yard.

Finally, they need something for at night besides the collapsible dog crate in my living room. :-D

I'm willing to buy, but since I already built a run I don't need a run/coop combo. Or I'd be happy to participate in barn-raisings at other peoples' places if anyone wanted to volunteer for a build-day at my place.

Thanks everyone. Feel free to call me, but its long distance. On Monday I'll have a local home phone but I don't have the number with me right now.

Hey Alyssa,

You finally made it! Welcome!
Hi there,

I'm new to the forum, and haven't built anything yet, but we're planning on converting an old dog house for our coop. Maybe you can find one for cheap on Craigslist or on Freecycle...
