Event Description

Join Women Transforming Cities, Vancouver District Labour Council’s Women’s Committee, and Britannia Community Centre to talk about how we can change our city so that it works for all of us.
This is the eighth in a series of monthly café events.
Participants can join round-table discussions in English, Mandarin and Spanish. Admission is free. For assistance with child care costs, please call Ingrid at 604-253-5927. Snacks & refreshments will be provided. Everyone is welcome!

Speakers include:
Gillian Creese – Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of BC. Her research interests include migration, racialization and gender; equity issues in work and trade unions; and feminist research methods.

Joey Hartman – President of the Vancouver and District Labour Council. She became active in the labour movement during a 14 week civic strike in 1981 that achieved some redress on pay equity issues.

Nadine Chambers – Coordinator, Women’s Center, Simon Fraser Student Society. She has served on numerous non-profit Community boards such as the Black AIDS Network and Vancouver Status of Women. Her grandparents’ philosophy of ‘learn something new every day’ guides her while contemplating both the old and the new forms of social structures and power in these unceded Coast Salish territories.
