Event Description

On Sunday, June 15th, there's no better place to be than Car Free Vancouver Day. On Commercial Drive (Venables to North Grandview), Denman Street (Robson to Davie) downtown, all over Kitsilano (block parties Sat  14th and Sunday), and Main Street (Broadway to 30th Ave--20+ blocks!), the streets come alive with literally hundreds of thousands of engaged and happy people.

IMAGINING YOUR IDEAL NEIGHBOURHOOD: CULTIVATING COMMUNITY RESILIENCE

Village won't just be on Main Street at the intersection of 13th Ave - WE'LL BE THE INTERSECTION AND MORE! Our 20-30 tent and open space Demo Sustainable Transition Village highlights what we and other folks are up to and typically includes neighbourhood villages (inc. Kits Village real-life demo sustainable village), bees, chickens, solar panels, seed libraries + seedling giveaways, permaculture, local/sharing economy resources, member projects, placemaking, homesteading, GMO info, community DIY, neighbourhood food networks, drop-in spaghetti nights, potlucks, dinner groups, discussion salons, asset mapping, gardening/urban ag, growing advice, community/collaborative gardens, green spaces,  composting display, emergency preparedness, plastic-free zero waste kitchen display, recycling, bike maintenance, imagining possibilities for a better future, kid-oriented carpentry/art activities, refreshments, a hospitality suite, FUN AND CELEBRATION and more.

We also invite other community groups to join us. Forming an important part of the village will be folks (many of whom we partner with) like Just Say Hello, Kits Space Project, SPEC, FC Watershed Soc., The HUB, Van. Tool Library, MODO, SPUD, Van. Neighbourhood Food Networks, Cottonwood Com. Garden, Van. Renewable Energy Co-op, Mt. Pleasant NH, LocoMotoArt, Blessed Bees, Daily Eggs, Homesteaders Emporium,  PosAbilities, Can You Dig It, The Pollinator Project, O.U.R. Ecovillage, Bat House info, Sun Dog clotheslines, Bike Trailers, others TBA.

Read an article here about the 2013 festival, featuring Village Founder Ross Moster, and watch a short movie here to see how it is organized and view what it looked like on its first year on Main Street.

Be there, and be part of one of the largest Car Free Day exhibitors, and enjoy the spirit of safe, open streets, Transition Town style!
