    Welcome, Nicole!

What brings you (virtually) to our corner of the world? How did you hear about us?

With not quite 200 members, we are trying desperately to reform our city along more sustainable lines. Despite what you might hear, Vancouver is a paved-over paradise with more concrete poured annually per capita than anywhere else on earth. Our buildings get higher every year, but they are so poorly built that many will only last 30 years. And with more wood around than almost anywhere on earth, we cut it mainly for export.

We have something in common with Chile in also formerly being in an area with great salmon habitat. Aquaculture--salmon farming--is destroying our wild fish stocks, just as it has hurt your fisheries as well.

So, we have a lot to do here on the other side of the earth from you. Please let us know how we can help you, and how we can learn from each other.

    All the best,

    Randy

    Nicole,
You teach with an excellent school paradigm, a truly hands-on learning style. Transition is a natural extension of your school's philosophy, learning by doing.

Canada has now over a dozen Transition movements, and probably far more ecoVillages. I am sure many would love to hear from you and host a visit. Peterborough in Ontario is probably the most advanced on the Transition pathway, and may have the most to share. On the subject of permaculture, Vancouver has active connections with organic farms, urban farms, and many experienced permaculture practitioners. Near Vancouver there is also a small permaculture farm that hosts visitors in exchange for work on the farm.

Tell me more about what you might like to do, and I will find some good contacts for you.

    Randy
