If you don't live in Vancouver or are in another neighbourhood or community we did not list, please tell us where home is.
Cloverdale
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
Growing a vegetable garden, permaculture, transit, energy efficiency, outreach, training, community building, social services, learning with and from others to be more sustainable
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
Preparing presentations and workshops to create awareness. Coaching on simply living, recyclying and reusing, using less energy. Helping out to use abandoned spaces to create gardens and community spaces. Giving presentations, creating, managing newsletters, brochures and distribution lists. Doing research. Helping out in documentaries and movie screenings
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
Better use of waste, more composting, community gardens and use of empty spaces for useful things (for the community). Less "development proposals" and more open and safe spaces for children to paly, and people from all backgrounds, ages and cultures to share. The opportunity of being more sustainable even when living in townhouses...more biking and car pooling and more public transportation.

I just read "The End of Growth" and learned about transition towns iniciatives. It's something I had always wanted to be involved with but I don't know where or how to start. I am just at the beginning of this "journey"...

    Hi Silvia
that is fantastic. We've been mostly focused on getting our neighbourhood groups up and running. But would love to have discussion with you and others, about how we might leverage what we've already accomplished.
I just completed the Reception Centre course this weekend and have also joined the new Fire department team.
We are well positioned on the radar screen of both the Vancouver ESS and the Vancouver Fire dept efforts to reach out to communities.
Look forward to meeting you soon.
    Cheers.
    Ann
