Urban food growing, permaculture, foraging & work parties, community food access, seed & plant exchanges, learning & sharing opportunities (workshops, events and/or regular meetup groups), cooking together & sharing a meal.. meeting great people & having fun learning & engaging with local community events :)
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
I used to live near the Gordon Neighbourhood House (West End) and was involved in taking care of community herb boxes & helped with urban farming initiatives (work parties!), also volunteer cooking at the vegan kitchen (providing free vegan lunch the next day, and all us 'chefs' shared a late dinner meal together after cooking). I really enjoyed all of those activities & the people I met. I'm interested in finding similar in my new neighborhood Kitsilano.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
Love the concept of urban farming, foraging & public herbs, connecting people to plants, nature & our food locally (especially for renters, apartment dwellers & non-home owners) with access to gardens & building community outdoors in our local areas.
