HI Folks: This is a community thank you. Two weeks ago I collapsed on the street outside Bean Around the World and the Flower Factory. I staggered from the Bean and fell into the street and started throwing up. Immediately three people I didn't know jumped out to the street : saw that I was shaken but ok and then acted. One fellow called 911. Then three people lifted me up off the road and carried me to the patio. An off duty nurse saw that was shaken but not broken. My friend Suzanne then organized to take my car home. The Bean staff came out and washed down the road.
The Ambulance finally came and off I went to VGH. I was seen right away. I have a brain tumour and the extra swelling from the tumour made me dizzy and nauseous. I spent a week in hospital getting tests and settling on different meds. The staff at VGH are great. I liked the young nurses and we taught each other.
But the thing I want my Main st group to know is that because I had a crisis and people who didn't even know took care of me, I felt part of a community and knew things would work out. The trauma of the collapse was erased by collective kindness.
So keep on helping out Main St hood let's take care of our vulnerable and make sure we have a community where everyone is safe, healthy and connected.
