Help start the Grandview-Woodland Seed Library!

Dear neighbours in Grandview-Woodland, aka The Drive,

Have you ever used a seed library before? A seed library is something that can be as simple as a box from which people can take seeds they need, leave extra seeds they have, and even return a new generation of seeds that they have saved from things they have grown themselves! Village Vancouver's portable seed libraries in neighbourhoods like Main Street, Cedar Cottage and Kitsilano have been big hits this past year, with many thousands (millions?) of seeds coming in and going out. It's amazing to think of all the food that these seeds went on to produce this season!

Good news: this year we received a Greenest City Neighbourhood Grant to put towards the creation of a seed library in our neighbourhood! We will do this in collaboration with the Grandview-Woodland Food Connection and host the library at the Britannia Community Centre for maximum accessibility. The seed library will go well with other neighbourhood food initiatives taking place in the area, including a number of community gardens and GWFC's community kitchen and bulk buying programs, among others.

To make this seed library successful, we need your help! In the short term, we are looking for a local graphic designer who can help create a poster and simple logo by the end of September to help promote the seed library; a small honorarium is available for this. We're also looking for people who would like to help:
-Construct and decorate the seed library
-Procure and organise seeds
-Produce instructional materials for the seed library

We are aiming for a meeting of interested helpers in late October, tentatively Oct. 29th. Please contact Jordan at jordan@villagevancouver.ca if you'd like to get in on this!

Cheers,
Jordan
