Formed in 2011, West End Neighbourhood Food Network is a diverse network of community members and organizations working together for a just, sustainable, and resilient food system in the West End. Join us at our monthly potlucks, skills building workshops, seed and plant swaps, food scrap drop spots (2012-15), community festivals, and at our other activities and projects.
The Vancouver Foundation and City of Vancouver have a grant program to fund individuals between $50 and $1000 for community projects. The deadline for applications is Monday, April 7, 2014 at 5 pm. (TODAY!) The application and reporting process is relatively simple and can oft times be completed in 30-45 minutes. A co-applicant is required.
From WE Neighnourhood Food Network's perspective, some things we would love to see in the West End are
•Edible landscaping projects around buildings •New community/collaborative Gardens •Fruit tree and/or Berry orchard projects on Blvds. •Permaculture projects •Rooftop garden pilot projects •Pilot projects in which an apartment building owner lets renters have gardening plots around the building •Hosting of lecture, seminar, film showing, or performance on the topic of food •Programming tie in with the 2nd West End Food Fest •Develop a plan for networking food gardeners •Community Shared Meals/Drop-in Spaghetti Nights •Seed Library •Plastic Recycling Depot •Emergency Preparedness projects •More food workshops! •Other projects and activities promoting food access and justice and food resilience
