Event Description

There are two parts to the “Protecting our Sacred Waters” event. The first is a day long symposium for
young adults (16-22 yrs.) The second is an evening event, open to everyone. Both will feature respectful
conversations about natural water systems -- watersheds, groundwater, rivers, wetlands and oceans -- the
effects of oil pipelines and tankers, and how these are intertwined with social justice, our eco-systems and
our economy.

To assure accessibility, registration for both events is by donation. Everyone is welcome, and contributions
to support the “Sacred Waters” project will be gratefully received.

Guest speakers and presenters include:

Rex Weyler - journalist, author, co-founder of Greenpeace, Hollyhock Institute, and Tanker Free BC
Aline LaFlamme and Daughters of the drum - Dene leader, past Board member and present Advisory
Council member of the InterSpiritual Centre of Vancouver Society
Chief Phil Lane Jr. M.Ed, M.P.A. - co-founder and international coordinator of the Four Worlds family of
organizations; a Native American (Dakota-Chickasaw), traditional pipe carrier, sweat lodge keeper, leader in
human and community development.
