Event Description

Harvest season's a great time to learn how to save seeds! Join us at one or more workshops.

FREE. Registration required. Limit 20/session.

Beginning Seed Saving: Based on The 5 Levels of Seed Saving, we'll focus on annual and biennial food plants. Instructors Leonie Croy and Maria Hunter (Dragonfly Seeds) will identify self-pollinators and cross-pollinators, and talk about the best seeds to start saving, including the easiest seeds to save in small gardens and why, and how to harvest, dry and store seed, and we'll clean some seed. Participants are welcome to register/stay for an Adv. workshop.

Advanced Seed Saving: This workshop's for anyone who understands the basics of seed saving. Maria and Leonie will discuss topics which relate to saving more challenging food plants, like cross pollinators (squash) and biennials like brassicas, esp. as they relate to seed saving challenges in city gardens. Bring your Q's - we'll address your seed saving issues.

Seed Library/Seed Savers Club Launch: Join the Strathcona CC Food Security Program and VV for the launch of our Library and Seed Club. Pick up free seeds for your garden, or swap/donate seeds. Meet fellow gardeners/seed savers and learn how the library works and re: gardening ops locally. All ages welcome (minors must be accompanied by a caregiver)! With Ross Moster.
