Village Vancouver

Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

Hello everyone,

I'm currently in the process of creating the Vancouver Tool Library.

The Vancouver Tool Library (VTL) is a community resource dedicated to building community and fostering sustainability by providing residents with tools and the power to use them. We loan a wide variety of tools to community members free of charge. The VTL benefits Vancouver residents by reducing the costs of maintaining and improving the places in which we live, work, and play. The VTL helps support diverse, livable neighborhoods and fosters community pride.

This type of community resource is not new and exists in many other places in North America. Here is a link that list some Tool Libraries in North America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tool-lending_libraries). It works on a simple system similar to a public library.

  1. Pay for a membership (except not through taxes)
  2. Rent any items in the library free of charge
  3. Participate in workshops free of charge
  4. Pay late fees on any late rentals
We would be seeking to get as many tools by donation as possible.

What I'm looking for:

  • A space where we could store and operate the rental shop in
  • Help with raising tool donations

If you can help with any of these please let me know.

Kind regards,

Chris Diplock

Hi Chris and Chris!

Are you still looking for space to house the tool library? We'll be sending out the Feb. VV Calendar newsletter the last week of the month and could include a note to see if anyone can offer space. Let me know.

Cheers,

shelby
