In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Other (indicate below)
If you don't live in Vancouver or are in another neighbourhood or community we did not list, please tell us where home is.
Fulton, Missouri (US)
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
I'm the Resource Coordinator for The Community Peacebuilding and Cultural Sustainability (CPCS) Initiative, at www.cpcsi.org. The Community Peacebuilding and Cultural Sustainability (CPCS) Initiative provides research for critical challenge alerts, and support for collaborative problem solving initiatives which seek to maximize citizen participation.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
The "Unprecedented Challenges Ahead--July 2020" (2 pages) document (https://bit.ly/3gGCaVZ) demonstrates why we need problem solving on a scale most of us have never known--see "constellation of initiatives" approach in "17 Tweet Series...." (as pdf file https://bit.ly/3fvqPHp), which will--

1) provide community service of Climate Emergency guidance from 1000s of orgs/institutions with decades of high visibility, high credibility experience
2) provide clear visualization of transformations needed in every aspect of our lives (climate action;
hunger; water scarcity; housing; land rights; biodiversity; civic engagement; peacebuilding, etc.)
3) provide equivalent of needs assessment for local communities, re kind which precedes Community
Visioning (many overviews of visioning http://bit.ly/2lWS4o3 ; 13 minute doc http://bit.ly/2uE1XX5 )
4) provide focus, urgency for local surveys of key leaders (prior to Visioning; re challenges and
solutions needed)--the responses to which can demonstrate need for Community Visioning
5) open up many new lines of discussion on how people can work through differences, get on the
same side, and help each other
6) be a great asset to the “over 1300 local governments in 25 countries (that) have declared a Climate Emergency” (as of 1/16/20)(see @MobilizeClimate campaign)

What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
I would very much like to partner with universities and colleges to carry out the Brainstorming 100% ASAP Campaign, and then move on to using 100-150 of the best 5-10 page overviews (above) to go forward with local preliminary surveys of 150 key leaders locally (asking for challenges and solutions with reference to 5-10 page overviews on what we need ASAP). The responses to such prelminary surveys will assist with residents understanding the need for Community Visioning, supported by many Neighborhood Learning Centers. I'm looking for people who believe this kind of collaborative problem solving is necessary, and so let's move on it.

Key quote: “We are far from having the kind of widespread public discourse we will need to fully understand the implications of the challenges ahead—and to plan accordingly so our collaborative problem solving and community education efforts do not fall short at this critical time.”

Do we fully understand the implications of the challenges ahead?
