Informal sewing group

I am posting this to the Discussion wall because the VV set-up makes it difficult to respond to people if you aren't already friends with them.Heather Talbot wrote earlier today in a message to the group:"I'm interested in setting up a VERY informal sewing group and wanted to see if there was any interest from this group... I'm thinking along the lines of a couple of times a month people get together (maybe bring some food) and work on their sewing projects together. I have a quilt project that…See More

Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Hastings-Sunrise

What I'm interested in....

My current interests include:
* involvement in an urban farming initiative in East Vancouver
* an East Vancouver chicken co-op
* learning about beekeeping

In the case of the first two, I don't have the space, but am definitely interested in making time to share work with other folks to make projects happen. I have a vehicle and can haul stuff around.

Additionally - for skill-sharing.... I have a lot of experience canning various foods, and will happily give workshops or one-on-one sessions in trade for seeds, plants, work-sharing etc.

HI Megan

Thanks for all your work! Sorry to have missed the Jan 31st potluck...I am now joining the Hastings-Sunrise village & hope to get more collaboration happening. Had a great meeting with Ross and others at Kiwassa who are working together on our "food philosophy".

Thanks

Hi Brian,

I saw you comment on Megan's page re: the 24th. Is this confirmed now? I can help with this. Yes, let's talk about what can be done. And about other ideas for advancing HS Village -- I think there's lots of people who will plug in if approached.

Cheers,
Ross

Hey Ross. Yes, we are into doing something. Megan will be on a beekeeping course that day, but I can certainly do a table. I'm going to let the organizers know that we are in. Perhaps we can find some time to chat a bit about any ideas you have for what we might put out to folks.

Hey Megan,

I was just noticing Mieke's comment about Green Up 2010. Are there plans from HSV's end to do something Transition related at their gathering? VV could probably table/help table, do a presentation, or...

Cheers,
Ross

Hello there,

thanks for the notice. Haven't been active on this forum since I first joined. Good time to start again.

Hey Megan, I'm glad to see you on here. We've got quite the capacity for bee and growing expansion (greenhouse, our eyes on major space, seeds, almost 30 hives now, etc.). Wondering what you're thinking for the hood or just yourself.

HI Megan, welcome to the beekeeping site! Great to hear you are taking the top bar hive course. I am also interested in top bar hives and what to learn more about them- so far I have checked out a friend's top bar hive near commercial. The get together for people who are interested in beekeeping will likely be the second or third week in June (I hope to confirm this by the middle of May and will let you know and will post it on the site).
Looking forward to meeting you and talking about the joy of beekeeping and sharing beekeeping information!

Welcome, Megan!

As you can see, we are just beginning to build an on-line community for Village Vancouver, and organize our extensive activities more openly and collaboratively through this site. Please feel free to contribute to a discussion, attend or even enter a new event, join a working group, or even form a Village.

Hastings does not have a local village formed yet, but your ranks are growing with now 7 Village Vancouver members, including Amy, Brian, Emily, Jasmine, Jacqui, and James.

Meanwhile, come to any event posted on our Events page, connect with other Village Vancouver members, and see what you can learn and do.

Also, please update your home page ("My Page" on your navigation bar above) with some brief comments about your interests or a short bio. This will help us all connect with people with similar interests in sustainability, transition, or other activities.

I hope to see you at a city-wide VV event soon.

Randy
