In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
North Vancouver
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
The areas of transition most interesting to me would be permaculture design, specifically community-managed food forests (so, the first three examples). This is most interesting to me because I see that as where I can be of most value to others in my community, human and otherwise. Other areas of transition that appeal to me would be seed saving, outreach, community building and placemaking. Also, reskilling the community
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
I am not familiar with any of the groups or projects in vancouver which is why I'm here. I'm currently enrolled at Quest University studying the question of "How can we promote resilience in social-ecological systems" with a specific focus on food forests and them as a means of increasing community resilience to disease, economic collapse, energy decent, droughts, and floods Most of my knowledge and skills are surrounding biotic and abiotic processes.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
What I would like to see most would be way more solar panels for starters and on top of that, massive sub-urban retrofits that make better use of peoples yards. Also, an upcycling center and a repair co-op. I also think tool co-ops are awesome.
