In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Riley Park-South Cambie, Bowen Island
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
Relocalizing economy/local currency. Food systems. Homes for all. Arts for all.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
See above. I'm currently a Vancity Credit Union and CCPA director and on the CCEDNET Policy Council. I'm the former mayor of Bowen Island and director at MetroVan.
I make really good latkes.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
I'd love to see a Transition Town directory of services and businesses that subscribe to the ethics and aims of TT. We need to connect to each other and relocalize the economy in a circulatory way.
I agree to read and abide by the Site Guidelines under the About tab on the navigation bar, remaining respectful in all communications on this web site.

Hi Lisa,

Welcome to Village! We seem to be forming a nice connection with former Bowen Island Mayors - Mayor Bob participated in one of our two day Transition in Vancouver workshops a couple years ago.

I look forward to tasting your latkes! And Happy Pesach.

Cheers,

Ross

Lisa,

We are very pleased to welcome you to the Village.  Of course, you already know what a Village is, at least in some respects, and it appears you know how to run one as well.

Your concept of Transition-certified businesses has been on our minds for some time.  We may in fact implement it through the mechanism of a community currency, where Transition partner businesses become the issuers and backers of this new hyper-local and interest-free means of exchange.  You can learn more about this project here or here.

But of course Transition businesses all live for the triple bottom line, and even a community currency issued solely to support neighbourhood, non-profit activities is just one way to measure success.  We have several incubated and integrally-supported local ventures already, such as NOWBC and Home Harvest Farms.

We do, however, need to work on that directory you mention, and perhaps issue Village window decals.

All in good...permaculture time.

I am the Village webmaster (largely because I am allergic to html) and I convene the Main Street Neighbourhood Village where you live.  We hold monthly potlucks and workshops at Little Mountain Neighbourhood House at 24th and Main.  Our next gathering is April 10th in the early evening (2 weeks), and we hope you could join us.  More details are here (click this link).

We are overjoyed to have such a fine public servant join us on our journey to the only possible future, and a bright one it is.
