In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Hastings-Sunrise
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
I am super interested in permaculture, urban agriculture. energy efficient buildings, homesteading, seed saving, community, building the lot of it! I dream to live sustainably off the grid in the future but while I live in an urban environment, I want to learn how to help make our cities less of a drain on the land and resources around them by enabling citizens to grow their food, minimize wastage and heal the land they live off.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
Having finished my PDC course in Australia this last November. I have knowledge and understanding of the underlying principles of permaculture. As well as some experience planting seedlings, making compost, and tending no turn garden beds. I am eager to learn a whole lot more and get my hands dirty.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
I have moved here from Montreal one month ago, and I am not familiar enough with the city yet to criticize its efforts. About cities/urbanscapes in general; I would like to see more information available to citizens on how to eliminate waste from packaging through purchasing bulk, re-purposing and reusing materials (in the form of PSAs for example). It would be beautiful to replace decorative trees and plants that line streets or park ways with species that bear edible fruit or can serve multiple functions at once. More DIY attitude, sense of personal responsibility and duty integrated into our culture.

Hi Kristine,
it was great meeting you as well, and fantastic that you're interested in gardening with us in Cottonwood and Aberthau. Since we were rained out at Aberthau yesterday. some of us may try to garden sometime during the week on a weekday. What's your schedule look like (including weekends)? Once we know that, we'll also decide if we're going to do our usual Saturday morning work party.
I'm not sure yet when our next Cottonwood work party will be, but likely in about 2 weeks. I'll keep you posted.

Welcome to Village Vancouver, Kristine!

I noticed that you've signed up for the info session on Saturday. I'm going send you an invite to the seed packet party that takes place before the info session, in case you have time to join us for that as well.

Cheers,
Ross
