update from June 20

Last Wednesday we spent half our time working with Carol's "big idea" of a Music Garden, inspired by the one in Toronto. This is a huge project in the non-profit realm, and our role in the circle was mostly the generation of ideas and connections, with some time spent identifying Carol's core gift and mission driving this idea. The second half was devoted to helping Evan work his way toward his…See More

update from June 13

I think we have proven that practice promotes improvement. Last Wednesday we had another go at the all-important area of market research/idea development. I was left with a strong sense of how the process works, and I believe we also came up with some high-quality info on the challenges and opportunities of the business idea we were exploring, which was Urban Permaculture Design. One of the temptations of interviewing possible clients is to attempt to sell them an idea without knowing what their…See More

update from May 30

Wednesday was our foray into doing effective market research. Dave Pollard was again with us, this time leading the group in a conversational role-play about getting first-hand information from the customers, suppliers and other stakeholders of an enterprise. The idea is to test the business idea and illuminate the needs of the clientele, possible hurdles and viability issues and possibilities not yet thought of. It is a process that normally would happen after a fair amount of secondary…See More

May 23 Summary and May 30 announcement

Last Wednesday (May 23), Dave Pollard joined us as we continued with the process of pitching ideas to each other and playing with ideas to fill in gaps, identify challenges and ascertain viability. It was again a stimulating and enjoyable session, with the added bonus that it gave us a business idea to use as the focus of our next session on Wednesday May 30. Three people pitched their ideas, which were for:a social and material rewards system to create incentive for people to engage in…See More

This is a group for sharing our time, talent and resources to create enjoyable work for ourselves that is "part of the solution" rather than "part of the problem". We will hold our next session this Wednesday at 7pm in the common room of Grace MacInnis Housing Co-op at Adanac and Salsbury. Please join us! RLC update from May 9th

Last session was taken up with 5 of us pitching ideas for businesses or unmet needs and receiving ideas, information, observations and questions from the group. It was largely a brainstorming session, resulting in expansion of the field of possibilities for each idea. The ideas were: · Wholistic Health and Wellness Centre· Consulting to help businesses find efficiencies and synergies that emerge out of Earth-friendly practices· Urban Farming – Permaculture style· Connecting Immigrants with the…See More

Profile Information

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Grandview-Woodland
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
edible landscaping and veggie gardening, building a less-consumptive lifestyle so we can devote time and resources to the good stuff, music (especially singing), expanding people skills to build community.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
