options for integrating pullets with older girls

Hi all, You may have noticed my recent post about the 7 week old pullets (now nearing 8 weeks). I brought two of them home, and they are smaller than I'd imagined, and not ready to integrate with my 'big girls'. (Also one of the 'big girls' is Really Upset about them... wouldn't be safe for the little girls at this time!)I don't want to leave the little girls in the kitchen any longer than necessary. I have several thoughts: 1) put the dog crate (with the little girls) into the run with the…See More

rescued chicks for adoption - 7 weeks old

Originally purchased at the Langley auction. Rescued by someone who can't have chickens from someone who didn't know how to take care of them (at all). She thinks they are: 5 female black stars, 1 female marans, 2 male marans, 1 female rhode island red (anyone with a reasonable idea for the boys, that would be great... )Rescuer is asking for $7.50 each. She will deliver to Vancouver. Please email huntress225@hotmail.comSee More

Free Sunchoke (Jerusalem artichoke) for planting

Sorry to double-post, couldn't figure out the best place for this.A couple dozen already-sprouted roots, could be divided for even more.If you have an area that can be dug up (to harvest), sunchokes are edilbe and come back every year (so can also be 'hard to get rid of' because you can never seem to harvest them all... but for the right location, that could be a benefit!)Near 4th & Commercial.See More

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Grandview-Woodland
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
I was involved in the Transition movement in Colorado when I lived there (1999 - 2010). I am interested in food, food, food: local food, food security, food-producing animals (chickens especially), and community building. Oh and I am big on fermenting food. And composting. Waste reduction, and anti-GMO. And I really love my chickens.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
chickens, food
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
More attention to garbage. There are lots of nice recycling containers available, but where I live they are all gross and nobody seems to care. Its amazing how much the REDUCE, re-use, and then (finally, as an afterthought!) recycle works if you use it in the right order. Also COMPOST everything, and really reduce packaging. Ban plastic bags, or charge a at least $1 each for them.

I'm okay not being 100% organic. I've never made kim chee before so I'm not picky! On Sunday I'm going to the Purple Thistle so that might not work... what about the following Sunday?

It looks like we are going to take a break from tabling at the Folk Fest.  We just decided this yesterday.  We found we just had no time for the music.  Now, Ross may have some weekend tickets available at $121 each for all three days (normally about $60 for Friday and $90 for Saturday or Sunday).  I'll email Ross separately.

Hi Alyssa,

I've been having problems with my email for the past week (mostly better now) -- have about 50 people to get back to...but I will as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience,
Ross
