Profile Information:

In which Vancouver neighbourhood or other community do you live?
Downtown, Grandview-Woodland, West End
Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
zero-waste, Permaculture, building soil health, building awareness, contemplating the universe and our brilliant existence, environmental accounting, relocalizing our economy, ecological economics, food production, community gardens and small space gardening, learning new and useful skills, diversifying, potlucks, composting; having a "community free store"; co-op living, eco-village living IN the city, greening everything, guerilla gardening, holistic nutrition, grey water systems, biomimicry, changing out stories - re-storying the universe "we can be just as much positive, as we are negative" :) as Bill Mollison said.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
Changing the way we account for things (i.e. full cost accounting); permaculturing spaces; engaging with community members, sharing and caring; spreading the love.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
community connections, green spaces for growing FOOD, a database that connects all the great causes that all share the same underlying belief/goal - living systems are crucial to our survival and we must show our love and respect for mother nature

About 350...parts per million of carbon dioxide molecules in the atmosphere.

The short, illustrated answer is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5kg1oOq9tY (90 seconds).

How this message translates into people demonstrating and acting together the world over is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noPcVKf24rk&NR (2 mins) .

350.org founder and 40-year climate activist Bill McKibben explains why BC is soon to become "one of the main staging grounds of global warming" here: http://www.youtube.com/embed/XyVYXLvg2kE (longer at 40 mins).

Just like Village Vancouver, 350 is yet another way people can learn, teach, and mend their ways.

In my mind, it all comes down to entries on a balance sheet, a real balance sheet, one that accounts for not just all of our natural resources but in fact the entire entropy deficit (embodied energy) upon which human life depends.

I learned in B-school that you can only manage what you measure.

It is time to start measuring what is important.

Good to see you there tonight.  We need more hard-core measurers and managers to start changing how we measure and manage.
