Please tell us which areas of Transition interest you. For example: growing more food/urban agriculture, relocalizing our economy/local currency, Permaculture, transit, energy efficient buildings, the arts, urban homesteading, preserving seed diversity, placemaking, potlucks, outreach, organizing events, community-building, having fun while saving the world, or...
Protecting + Increasing Productivity of suburban farmland in an ecologically sane way. Building rural communities and empowering individuals to increase their personal resiliency by sharing slow skills. Arming small farms and food related businesses with the business know-how to be sustainable financially AND ecologically.
There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
I am the owner / operator of Coghlan Cottage Farm, a five acre pasture-based farm near Fort Langley. We specialize in pasture-raised lamb, heritage pork and pastured eggs. I have been farming full-time since 2012 and before that had an urban farm in East Van for five years. I have been a Certified Master Organic Gardener since 2008. I teach courses in raising backyard chickens, natural soap making using waste lard and organic food gardening.
What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
I would like to see more of my neighbour's farms on ALR land be used for farming, not as wasteful lawns or worse yet, junkyards. Many folks here are looking for farm status but don't want to farm. Any connection that can be made between city folks who want to farm and rural folks who don't would be good for everyone.
