*Creating Native Bee Houses (take home a native bee house; free for seniors)

In this joint VV Eldergreens-WENFN West End Urban Garden Club workshop, Hives for Humanity will lead us in creating Houses for Native Bees, including Mason Bees, as part of our continuing efforts to support pollinator well-being in the West End.

You'll learn about the importance of native bees, native bee plant relationships, native bee life cycles, and honeybees vs. native bees. We'll decorate the native bee houses, which consist mainly of upcycled wood cut to assemble triangle shaped houses. Participants will hand roll tubes for the houses, and we may also create some houses out of pop bottles. Discussion on where to hang houses, what plants to plant nearby and what signs to look for, as well as after care instructions, will follow, and everyone who wants to will be able to take a bee house home with them!

Pick up a 2018-19 West End Urban Garden Calendar, and some free seeds for your garden from the West End community seed library. Swapping and seed donations welcome, and we're able to make seed donations to West End community and school gardens (contact us1st at seedsaving@villagevancouver.ca).

Cost: $10. FREE for Seniors (50 and over). 50% discount Leisure Access Card discount available.
