Summary and Resources

Current Project: FED-AP. Our Food Energy Descent and Action Plan. (Community Food Resiliency Plan.)

A unique and comprehensive resource on energy sustainability across almost all uses is David MacKay's Sustainable Energy Without the Hot Air, available free on-line by clicking here.

Check out how to install a Solar Roof here.

The best collection of research links on Peak Oil and alternative energy, the latter customized to the climate of the Northwest, is here on the Sightline Institute's web site. If you know of other important resources, please post them on these pages here or send them to us.

While acting locally, global thinking is also needed. Few better arguments for building a green energy economy, and suggesting clear policy means of to do so, are the subject of this April 2010 article by Nobel-Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman--click here to view as a PDF . Carbon taxes, carbon tariffs, and global carbon cap-and-trade are all discussed here, rationally and fairly.

I thought I'd try and wire it up, looks pretty simple.

This may be off the wall: I signed up for a build it yourself solar kit from Greg Schmidt awhile back, and continue to receive emails from him regarding other products.
I just received an email for a very interesting energy generator, simple to construct, based on some recently uncovered blueprints purportedly attributed to Tesla.
Here goes the you tube video. Was thinking of giving it a try myself.

Interesting visit to Helios Solar in Vancouver. I am installing evacuated tube solar heater I purchased last year from one of their dealers. Water quality is critical to operation of tank as is cathodic protection. I am altering my system to improve these preconditions.

I have completed back porch (porte cochere) and have solar tank attached. Now working on plumbing and wiring hookup.

Totnes has chalked up another leadership. They've created a local energy coop. Read about it at the following link. http://www.energybulletin.net/stories/2010-09-15/report-launch-totn...

Really good article posted on Energy Bulletin summarizing the 3 recent high-level reports on Peak Oil, http://www.energybulletin.net/stories/2010-08-23/major-reports-poin....
Conclusion: consensus that supply constraints will hit between end 2010 and 2013
