Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

Los Angeles: 1600 miles of bike routes planned, 100,000 person Ciclovia

From Transtion Laguna Beach...some impressive stats re: Los Angeles:

We are assembling a party from TLB to attend this Sunday's CicLAvia in LA. We will be taking Metrolink from Irvine sta, timing TBA.
I participated in the two previous CicLAvia's and they were both momentous occasions, with possibly 100,000 people. This is a sea-change for an auto-dependent city like LA, and it is tremendously heartening to see the enthusiastic support and leadership of mayor Villaraigosa in supporting the reorientation of LA away from auto-dependence.
The city has voted for 1600 miles of bike routes, and recently hosted a Dutch bicycle consultancy  team. There is a flurry of transit construction with many new lines planned and under construction, including the new Exposition Line light-rail first phase from LA to Culver City completed and under testing for opening early in the new year, with the second phase to Sta Monica under construction.
Come and participate in history in the making!  Maybe we can learn how to put on our own Ciclavia in Laguna, and lobby for transit construction in OC.
Reply to this message if you would like to participate.

Housing

A human right? After food, most feel shelter is the most important necessity. A place of shelter is also the start of a community. This category is for all things relating to shelter, housing, affordable housing, homes, renewable heating systems, green buildings, heritage, and our built environment in general.
