One of my chickens was bitten by a mink/weasel/or...... last night. We've seen it and are trying to trap it but still have an injured bird on our hands. She should be ok, is eating and drinking but we are looking for some antibiotics. I don't want to take her to the vet, we just need a round to keep infection away. Any ideas where we could get some?

Leftover people antibiotics-google them with the word poultry and only listen to veterinary or dept of agriculture sites. Find 3 posts that confirm the same answer. Disregard anything written by not-a-vet. Make friends with a vet for next time.

You can flush the wound thoroughly with saline wound wash. It cleans it without killing the cells along the edge of the wound so the edges can heal back together. Safeway has it in a spray can. If there are puncture wounds-holes it will need to stay open and drain for a few days. If its a slash that might need stitches? But if its stopped bleeding since last night you can probably get away without them. Keeping it clean is just as important as antibiotics. Might be able to spread polysporin on it-check vet sites first. Can you move your chicken to somewhere really clean with no dust or bits of stuff to get into the wound until it closes? Did you see this mink/weasel? Cat teeth spacing is similar if you are going by the holes. Godd luck trapping it-don't get bit.
