Village Vancouver

Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

Hi all,

Village is working with the folks (VV members) who are organizing the Kits Composting Block Challenge. It's a cool way to help promote and increase backyard composting on your block - and get a free compost bin.

How Many Compost Bins in Your Block?
Join the Kitsilano Composting Block Challenge

Have a home with a yard? Want healthier soil for growing vegetables and flowers? Want to reduce waste? Never composted before or stopped for some reason?

We are looking for people to participate in a City of Vancouver neighbourhood backyard composting pilot in Kitsilano. We are setting up a block challenge and hope to have three or four blocks competing to see how many new compost bins/active composters we can add to each block.

Each participant will receive a free compost bin, instruction and support.

The pilot study runs from June 20 to August 7, 2011.

Only 20 spots available! Apply by June 15.

We are also seeking experienced composters in each block who might be willing to mentor the uninitiated. Other volunteers are needed for surveying and weighing of materials.

For more details and to apply, contact Tamara at 604.685.0017 x300 or email tshulman@eba.ca/.

If you have to leave your village, how will you get where you want to go? By car? Preferably not, both for your wallet and the earth’s sake. This category is for all discussions relating to how we all get around.

Housing

A human right? After food, most feel shelter is the most important necessity. A place of shelter is also the start of a community. This category is for all things relating to shelter, housing, affordable housing, homes, renewable heating systems, green buildings, heritage, and our built environment in general.
