Hi all,

I am really interested in doing some canning for the end of summer/fall period. I don't have any equipment or a lot of experience, but I have a space to host an afternoon.

Hi Marnie:

My partner and I have already started jamming strawberries (including a strawberry-lavender jam that is amazing!), and we're planning on keeping busy with canning throughout the summer. We canned nectarines last summer, which is MUCH easier than peaches. No special skills, but we have one of the big canning pots from Crappy Tire, as well as a car if people need to make a run to get supplies.

Let's keep in touch!

i am not sure about the potluck tomorrow. 1) because the weather hasn't really been cooperating and mostly 2) because i got called into work and i am not really in a financial position to say no. but there is no reason the potluck shouldn't go ahead with out me. so go for it!! or if you want to wait a week, the 9th is free for me, and who knows, maybe it will be sunny.

Is the potluck going ahead this coming Wednesday? I'm not sure I'll be able to be there earlier, since I have a friend's going away celebration at 7pm... could maybe come after, or else before if it was starting earlier...

Clélie--yes, a friend and I were talking about starting this asset mapping as part of a real geographical map of the neighbourhood. I think this is how it's often done in the exercise as well... only it would have to be in some form that we could all access, such as online (which I wouldn't know how to do...)

Hello Hannah,

Wow, I am pretty impressed by the list of skills and resources available in our community. It would be helpful to have this information organised in such a way as it could be searched and someone could easily contact someone else to set-up a learning exchange etc...
How inspiring to see that just a sligth scratch at the surface leads to such a pletora of skills and knowledge.

Also, I recently was at an event on local resilience that involved Village Vancouver, and we did some asset mapping (brainstorming about skills/resources that we have an are able to share). This is what we came up with from the eight or so people in our group. Hopefully this will end up being inspiring and perhaps useful in some way, although I don't have the contact for many of the people there. I am at 2nd and Commercial, and I know the person at Graveley and Kamloops. Maybe others will join and allow us to connect to these wonderful resources!
Hastings/Sunrise (Hastings/Nanaimo):
- bicycle repair skills, still, beehives, massive library, instruments, recording equipment, yoga, vegan cooking
Woodland/Williams:
- 2 homeopathic practitioners (part of tincture web), permaculture skills (rainwater, compost), motorcycle repair, geologist
Adenac/Victoria:
- bicycle repair/building skills, urban CSA, small-scale fish operation, (aquaponics, aquaculture skills)
E 4th & Commercial:
- landscape design/urban planning/gardening/permaculture skills, store of tools, massive library, social networking, car
E 2nd & Commercial:
- herbalism, local foraging, beekeeping knowledge, permaculture savvy, education social network, studio space, (workshops, music creation)
Graveley/Kamloops:
- Fresh Roots CSA, beehives, bicycle repair, 2 chickens (5x8 coop, 1 egg a day), car, tools (starting tool coop/library)

Hi everyone!
Just got accepted into this group, very excited to get involved in things as much as time allows... the potluck sounds like a great idea, I'm fairly sure that I can make it. I can let a lot of others know as well, and it would be great if someone who has access to the entire list-serv could send it out to those who have signed up at events but are not online here on the website (maybe as part of a larger email listing other events).
Hope to see you soon!

That sounds great!
Looking forward to it.
If you aer able to post the poster doc to the site- then maybe other folks can help with postering.
Clelie
