Summary and Resources

Current Project: FED-AP. Our Food Energy Descent and Action Plan. (Community Food Resiliency Plan.)

A unique and comprehensive resource on energy sustainability across almost all uses is David MacKay's Sustainable Energy Without the Hot Air, available free on-line by clicking here.

Check out how to install a Solar Roof here.

The best collection of research links on Peak Oil and alternative energy, the latter customized to the climate of the Northwest, is here on the Sightline Institute's web site. If you know of other important resources, please post them on these pages here or send them to us.

While acting locally, global thinking is also needed. Few better arguments for building a green energy economy, and suggesting clear policy means of to do so, are the subject of this April 2010 article by Nobel-Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman--click here to view as a PDF . Carbon taxes, carbon tariffs, and global carbon cap-and-trade are all discussed here, rationally and fairly.

Thanks, John.

This was so enlightening and heartening that I've linked this 52-minute video to our VV-TV "channel" here. The video shows up larger on our site, and I have also included a 10-minute, brilliantly-animated summary of Jeremy Rifkin's key po....

Watch both, and you'll find some reason to hope that the core principles of Transition are based inextricably in our genes, and that the real battle is to "unlearn" several centuries of dysfunctional mythology entrenched in some of our most potent institutions, including our schools, companies, and governments.

It is no mean task, but I think we are up to it...if we work together.

This link is Jeremy Rifkin at the British Royal Society of the Arts
(RSA) speaking on the "Empathic Civilisation".

Very seminal and integrative thinking that ties many important trends together in a coherent worldview based on how the species utilizes energy. Gets us beyond the conceptual framework provided by our education and nurture.

54 minutes long, & you probably need a broad-band connection, but mind-blowing stuff, & worth a listen.

Nick is not out in left field about econol, but has raised a concept and technology on the cusp of broad commercialization in California. Take a quick look at the link above. It was recently covered in the LA Times and Wall Street Journal.

Hi all,

An update on my activities...

I haven't heard back from Geoff Hill of switchover.ca....He's having a baby next month and is probably in Seattle where his partner is.

Yee.

Hi Nick
I added 2 slots to give people the option to define the hour of our meeting. You're right, it adds confusion. Please go ahead and indicate availability. Its looking like the 27th is the best day, but Ross is asking if we can coalesce around June 3rd as the Heart and Soul group is also settling in on that date, and there are a few crossovers.

Hi Ann,
On the Doodle calendar there are two time slots for each day: 6:30 AM - 8:30 PM and 5:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Should I just ignore that and indicate what days I would be available?

I haven't tried it yet but Google Buzz might be a good venue for this sort of 'white board' brainstorming: http://www.google.com/buzz

Hi Everyone
Some of you have responded to the doodle calendar with your availability for the next Energy Group meeting.
If you haven't yet, would you please indicate which days would work best? Follow this link if you haven't got a copy of the email http://www.doodle.com/uqc4k43rnpdartmv
Kind regards. Ann

Bullfrog energy provides clean energy generation technology. Watch the video to see how it works. We may want to develop a relation with them. Its a Canadian based company, with good penetration in the commercial market.

Good summary of increasing peak oil awareness.
