SAVE A SEED, SHARE A SEED
Hi all those interested in learning more about seed saving, the how to’s and why’s.
Ann and Hanno were recently awarded a neighbourhood small grant to start up a seed saving group in Dunbar. We hope to:
 Raise awareness of the importance of seed saving
 Connect gardeners interested in learning about seed saving and sharing
 Offer an initial seed saving workshop and circulate information about future seed saving workshops in other neighbourhoods
 Collaborate with other neighbourhood seed saving efforts (Kitsilano, Main Street, Cedar Cottage) sharing resources, seeds and good will.
Come to 3575 Mayfair Ave on Wed, October 10th at 6:30 pm to find out more. RSVP or find out more by emailing annjpacey@gmail.com

Why? Without seeds, we cannot grow food. The world seed supply is increasingly being controlled and concentrated into fewer hands, mostly corporations with an interest in genetic modification and the patenting of seeds.
The reality of climate disruption points to the importance of having a readily accessible and diverse supply of fruit and vegetable varieties to feed ourselves. Seed varieties adapted to local conditions are best suited to help us successfully grow more food locally, however, as seeds have a limited lifespan, it is crucial that we preserve them now for future generations – we risk losing these varieties if we do not. Saving seed is a life-preserving act that farmers and urban home gardeners alike can do to ensure a healthy and prosperous harvest.
Hope you will join us.

I'm trying to set up a meeting with the event coordinator at Dunbar Centre, she hasn't responded to my first email, and so I've just sent a second. Does anyone know Debbie Barber?
Lets go ahead with a get to know each other meetup of our group so far, and see what direction our collective energies are pointing. I'll send a doodle calendar around so everyone can indicate what time and date works best.

I have some lillies or irises... not sure which... I'm not a flower person but they're at least 2 feet tall if anyone wants them. I posted them on Craigslist the other day and most of them are gone but there's still plenty left. They're behind the chicken coop if you want to come dig them up. We also have some really nice Yucca plants that are not happy in their current location. They'll be hard to dig up but if you want them, you're welcome to them. They're near the corner of the house by the big veggie garden. We also have some raspberries in the front yard. We've already transplanted a bunch of the into the back where they seem much happier so help yourself if you want some. The address is 5930 Blenheim. I'm away all week so just help yourself during the day. Ludo and the kids will be home late afternoon/evening and the dogs might be in the yard so just knock first. The chickens will be out during the day so please be sure not to let them out. Thx!

Thanks for getting the group set up Ann! I invited a bunch of people in the Dunbar Growers group so hopefully we'll have a good active group going here. Unfortunately I'm going to be away all of next week with no internet access but I'll look forward to contributing and meeting everyone when I get back.
