Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

I am looking for a weed free source of certified organic topsoil for my garden.  Since I expand my garden all the time and plant food all over, I need lots as I use it all over my yard.  Any experience and recommendations?

I've googled and can up with Got Dirt and Artisan Landscaping...any commments?

thanks!

I am taking the Organic Master Gardener course from Gaia College.  I posted your question on the Vancouver based discussion board.  These are the responses so far:

- Try Eco-Soil from the Fraser Valley. Use the certified organic eco amender. It's fantastic but expensive.

- I don't think there is any 'certified' organic soil available. If there was, it would be Transform (in Abbotsford I think)...that is John Paul. Otherwise, West Creek Farms has organic soil but it's not certified.

- I have not heard of a certified organic topsoil.  "Topsoil" is specifically the top layer of soil removed from a site, so it would be difficult to find any certified organic, unless it comes from a certified organic farm.  The people probably want a soil amendment.

We use Seasoil (OMRI certified) or Transform soil amendments to amend food growing soils.  Transform products are not certified b/c they don't want to deal with the admin, but the products are food worthy.  Both Transform and Seasoil are weed free.

I hope this helps.  cylia

hi Cylia,

I like Seasoil but it only comes in bags.  I was hoping ot get a big dump of amender (you are right, not topsoil, but amender)... does eco-soil deliver in large quantities?

thanks!

I am just the messenger. I have no relationships/connections with the suppliers so you'll have to contact them yourself. If you could post what you find out, that may be helpful for others who may have the same needs/questions in the future. Thanks.
