We all have something to teach, and we all have a lot to learn. That's what Free School is all about. On July 30-31st, we will share our accumulated knowledge of matters practical, theoretical and radical. We will also celebrate, discuss, make music, get to know the land, eat, and connect with friends old and new.
The idea of the Free School comes from a place called Waldegrave Farm in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, where an inter-generational group of people has gathered every summer over the past 5 years to share skills, knowledge, stories and adventures on a voluntary basis. Free School has featured discussions, workshops and seminars on everything you always wanted to know, and some things you didn't even know you were interested in, ranging from solving algebra problems to green building techniques, from sustainable gardening to raising healthy families and communities, and from setting up a co-op business to playing the banjo!
This summer, we are pleased to bring Free School to the UBC Farm. You're invited to participate. Think about what you would teach if you had a captive audience for an hour or two, what conversation you would host, what game you would start, what skill would you share? This is your chance to shape what Free School becomes. Propose a session when you sign up, or simply come and check out others' sessions. And please also join the facebook group and invite your friends to do the same http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=119537708081147. Word of mouth is the Free School's best friend.
