Explore the cultural and economic causes of the social, economic and ecological crises facing us today. We will investigate key underlying western values, beliefs and institutions in order to better understand the blocks to social change. Is the fundamental root cause of the crises a matter of personal behaviour, political will, economic efficiency, or institutional bias towards economic growth? This exploration leads to understanding the possibilities for a more positive future.
Offered as part of the Village Vancouver Transition School as part of Langara College's Sustainable Communities Summer School.
Instructor: Kathryn Chollette
Kathryn Cholette served as: the Federal Leader of the Green Party of Canada from 1988-1990; co-coordinator of the Tin Wis Coalition of First Nations, unions, and environmental groups; and editor of the Green Cities Section of the national magazine New City. She works with Village Vancouver promoting the ‘Transition Movement’ and is a Board of Directors of New City Institute.

If you have to leave your village, how will you get where you want to go? By car? Preferably not, both for your wallet and the earth’s sake. This category is for all discussions relating to how we all get around.

This category is for all things relating to shelter, housing, affordable housing, homes, renewable heating systems, green buildings, heritage, and our built environment in general.
