Event Description

"The Garden" is a fascinating documentary look at a huge community garden created in Los Angeles in the wake of the Rodney King beating some years ago. The garden was a roaring success ... what happened next provides some interesting thought towards the role of community gardens in the City.

The film will be shown to the Seed to Sky garden club, as well as to members of Cityview Baptist Church, where club meetings are held, and where a community garden has been set up with efforts from both the club and the church. Did you know that several of the plots go towards creating produce for the weekly hot lunch provided by the church to dozens of needy folks? Let us bring garden club and church members together to co-ordinate efforts towards keeping the gardening plots at their best.

Please RSVP, since the church will be providing soup and buns to those seeing the film. This will allow them to plan approximately how much is needed.

Note also that some new community gardening plots have been created this year, and will be available to interested people very shortly.

The September meeting is planned for the usual 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. That comes very early this time, on September 8th right after Labour Day, so don't get taken by surprise! If there is any change, we'll let you know. The featured speaker will talk to us about growing bulbs. Since fall is the time for planting bulbs to provide the colour and garden interest in the spring, this should prove quite timely.
