Tuesday January 21st @ Gordon Neighbourhood House COPE organized a Community Meeting discussing Rent Control Strategies. The panel discussed ways CITY COUNCIL & PRIVATE CITIZENS can STOP RENOVICTIONS like HEATHER PLACE. There ARE REAL RENT CONTROL MODELS in Ontario & Montreal NOW: Controling the percentage that a landlord may increase a rent after dislocating residents for renovation or re-development. It is NOT an increase like the 70% or higher Metro Vancouver Housing Corporation, a supposely "Non-profit" organization, is suggesting Heather Place residents pay after DISOLCATION & ONLY "POSSIBLE" return IF residents "QUALIFY". It IS the STANDARD YEARLY ALLOWABLE rent increase gudied by the RESIDENTIAL TENANCY ACT, i.e. Approx. 3%!!

MVHC did not build nor keep up maintenance to keep Heather Place's 20 year buildings out of a state of disrepair! They should not be allowed to Renovict, Rebuild & Manage another Shotty Construction like Olympic Village JACKING UP RENTS by 70% or more!

Looking forward to getting creative with you to address this issue and have fun!

The Fight for Affordable Housing began at Stop the eviction of Little Mountain tenants and it does not end at Heather Place, its throughout BC & Canada!! We are only 1st World Nation with 3rd World Housing Policies!! We Have enough for NEED NOT GREED!! Arun Gandhi, (Feb. 2013). Tried to chat with Adrian Dix and he went off line. I wrote: Adrian had a very intersting conversation with TRAC, Tenant Resource & Advisory Centre, http://www.tenants.bc.ca/main/, yesterday about Heather Place. Would you be able to come out on March 1st from 4 pm to 9 pm to our Open House/Potluck considering the Child Poverty rate of BC 9 years running and Rich Coleman's Housing Ministry 10 years running deleting afford housing throughout BC and impoverishing working families of BC? I think this is important to many working families of BC!!! Provincal Policies excluding Student Loans & Child Care Costs are unacceptable as considering the child Poverty rate of BC. Privacy policies permitting landlord's such as Metro Vancouver Housing Corporation to request market rent tenants' income tax information to enter waitlists to return to their homes once re-developed even though subsidies may not be available are atroiously invasive and are only serving developers data bases NOT the working families of BC!! Rich Coleman, Adrian Dix, Jenny Kwan & George Heyman & Hedy Fry also invited to Heather Place's Open House PotLuck to discuss these Issues! TRAC resources will be on site at the Saturday, March 1st @ HP! Call Rich Coleman's Phone: (604) 882-3151
Adrian Dix's Phone: (604) 660-0314, Jenny Kwan's Phone (604) 775-0790 & George Heyman's Phone (604) 775-2453 & Hedy Fry's Phone (604) 666-0135 offices TODAY PLEASE and LEAVE MESSAGES TO TELL THEM TRULY AFORDABLE HOUSING IS THEIR PRIORITY!!
