Event Description

On Saturday and Sunday, June 20- 21, there's no better place to be than Car Free Vancouver Day. On Commercial (Venables-Grandview) on the 21st, Denman (Robson- Davie) in the West End on the 20th, all over Kits (block parties) both days, and Main St (Broadway-30th) on the 21st, the streets come alive w/literally hundreds of thousands of engaged, happy people.

Village won't just be on Main St at the intersection of 13th- WE'LL BE THE INTERSECTION AND MORE! This year we're taking over a whole block, including most of 12th-13th Ave. Our 30+ tent and open space Demo Sustainable Transition Village highlights what we and others are up to and typically includes neighbourhood villages, bees, chickens, solar panels, seed libraries + seedling giveaways, permaculture, local/sharing, economy resources, member projects, placemaking, native edibles, homesteading, GMO info, community DIY, neighbourhood food networks, drop-in spaghetti nights, potlucks, dinner groups, asset mapping, gardening/urban ag, growing advice, community/collaborative gardens, green spaces, composting display, emergency prep, recycling, bike maintenance, imagining possibilities for a better future, a hospitality suite, FUN AND CELEBRATION and more.

THIS YEAR WE ALSO HAVE A MUSIC STAGE. More details, including the lineup, can be found here.

We also invite other community groups to join us. Forming an important part of the village will be loads of groups (many of whom we partner with). 2015 groups TBC - past groups have included Just Say Hello, Kits Space Project, SPEC, FC Watershed Soc., The HUB, MODO, SPUD, Van. Neighbourhood Food Networks, Cottonwood Com. Garden, Vancouver Urban Farmer Society, 2 Block Diet, Van. Renewable Energy Co-op, Mt. Pleasant NH, LocoMotoArt, Blessed Bees, Madame Beespeaker, Daily Eggs, Homesteaders Emporium,  PosAbilities/CYDI, OUR Ecovillage, EARTH Native Edibles, Bat Houses, Sun Dog clotheslines, Bike Trailers, etc.

Read an article here about the 2013 festival, featuring Village Founder Ross Moster, and watch a short movie here to see how it's organized and view what it looked like its 1st year on Main Street.

Be part of one of the largest Car Free Day exhibitors, and enjoy the spirit of safe, open streets, Transition Town style!
