Event Description

Meet at south end of Kingcrest Park, 4150 Knight St. (at E. 26 Ave.) at 2pm.

We will walk down Gibson Creek, which was known to be running through this neighbourhood into the 1940s. Gibson Creek was the longest creek in the second largest creek system in Vancouver (China Creek).

We will encounter indicators — visual and otherwise — of where Gibson Creek and another creek once ran, and where they met at a place known to this day as Gibby's Field, which contains an original piece of creek bed.

Dan Fass has been involved since 2006 in preserving Gibby's Field as a community greenspace. He has produced a 32-page historical booklet about Gibson Creek (available as a PDF at www.vcn.bc.ca/gibbys). He is a member of the Board of the False Creek Watershed Society.
